Design and Build Quality

The Matrix2 feature articulating earcups with ComfortTouch pads and adjustable headband. This trio provides sufficient comfort to support all-day listening. MEE wanted to make a distinct statement, so they went with a carbon fiber styling. We believe that it looks pretty good, although some may find the carbon fiber look to be slightly overdone, at this point.

The headband can be adjusted in precise increments, and the inside mechanism is reinforced with a steel band. You can try to twist and bend it as much as you want, and it will always return back to its original form (not that we advise you to try it!).

MEE Audio decided not to group control buttons together. Instead, all buttons are separate, allowing you to easily distinguish them apparat by touch alone. The left earcup houses a microphone, three dedicated button controls, and 3.5mm audio port; the right earcup houses a microUSB charging port and three extra buttons that allow you to skip songs and pause/play your music.

The built-in audio connector allows you to choose whether you want to listen to music via Bluetooth or in a wired configuration. If you decide for Bluetooth, you can expect the battery to last up to 22 hours.

Sound Quality

The list of features that contribute to the excellent sound quality is rather impressive: Advanced Bluetooth 4.0 technology with NFC and support for aptX, AAC audio codecs for HD-quality audio, and advanced 40 mm drivers that are fine-tuned to deliver deep bass, crystal-clear vocals, and smooth treble.

The resulting sonic curve is smooth and decidedly above average. Our only complaint is about the shorter Bluetooth range of these headphone. Some of the best Bluetooth earphones can reach up to 40ft, but the Matrix2 start to lose signal strength only after 20ft.
